OMP KS Karting Shorts
The OMP KS shorts are purpose-built protective garments for kart drivers who require reliable impact absorption without sacrificing freedom of movement. Developed within OMP's KS series, the design combines strategically placed padding zones with an integrated ventilation system, making the shorts equally suited to short practice runs and extended race sessions lasting several hours.
OMP engineered the KS model with the specific demands of karting in mind - chassis vibration, contact with bodywork and sustained acceleration loads are part of every kart driver's routine. The protective inserts are positioned at the points most exposed to impact: hips, lower back and legs, addressing the actual risk areas rather than offering generic coverage.
The shorts are cut entirely in black, with a close-fitting silhouette reaching to mid-thigh. The waistband is finished with a silicone inner edge that prevents the garment from shifting during dynamic driving - the KS logo appears at the front of the waistband and the OMP logo at the rear. An OMP oval logo is placed on the left thigh. The front panels of the legs incorporate the AirFlow ventilation zones - perforated panels with laser-cut micro-perforations forming a textured surface pattern. The leg openings are finished with a smooth cuff carrying both OMP and KS branding. At the rear, pre-formed protective inserts covering the lumbar region and sacrum are integrated directly into the fabric without additional closures or fastenings.
The 3D foam back insert uses an embossed structure to provide additional lumbar support during driving - a feature absent from standard compression shorts. The AirFlow micro-perforations enable active air circulation and heat dissipation without compromising the structural integrity of the protective panels. The silicone waistband finish keeps the shorts stable throughout the session regardless of driver movement. The close-fit cut eliminates material friction against the race suit and maintains the padding in its intended position at all times.
